Hidden gems

After the writers conference this weekend I went back to my file of stories I've started then abandoned. Lots of junk in there, too, but I did find a couple of things I liked. One I liked a lot, actually, and I think it's got some potential to be finished quickly. Kind of excited about that.

  1. Jarrett - panning through all of the 'dross' I invariably churn out I occasionally come across a few gold nuggets worth hanging onto! Never dismiss anything - you may find it sparks your imagination at a later date!

I look forward to seeing the results of your labours!

  2. At the conference this weekend I heard several presenters say that you can't be afraid to delete things that don't fit in your story. Delete things that aren't working. And I understand that. You can't fall in love with your words and have to be willing to sacrifice everything for the story.

But I don't ever delete anything. Even if something doesn't work I'll pull it out of whatever story it's in, but I'll put it aside. You never know when you can reuse it with a little work.
